On August 1, 2025, the "Shaping Ideas into Reality" – Zero-Based 4D Printing Experience & Science Popularization Event, hosted by the Guangzhou Future Additive Manufacturing Research Institute, was successfully held at the 1906 Science and Technology Park.
With the core theme of "Shaping Ideas into Reality", the event integrated explanations, exhibitions, and interactions to create an immersive science popularization scenario that combined knowledge, fun, and technological appeal. It attracted a large number of technology enthusiasts, students, and parents, bringing them a fascinating and informative science and technology feast.
At the event site, teachers from the Guangzhou Future Additive Manufacturing Research Institute gave vivid and engaging explanations to introduce 4D printing technology in an easy-to-understand way. Compared with traditional 3D printing, 4D printing adds the dimension of time and uses smart materials that can automatically deform with changes in time and environment. The printed objects can self-assemble, deform, and repair under specific conditions, which greatly broadened the audience’s horizons.
In the exhibition session, a series of amazing works created through 4D printing technology were displayed one after another, including finger-shaped models that can automatically unfold in specific environments, retractable suitcases, cardiac occluders, and intelligent mold models. These works fully demonstrated the unique charm and unlimited potential of 4D printing technology, drawing bursts of amazement from the on-site audience.
To allow everyone to experience the magic of 4D printing more intuitively, an interactive experience area was set up at the event. Staff operated 4D printers on-site and printed simple models to showcase the charm of 4D printing. Children were particularly excited, asking questions actively and exploring the mysteries of science through practice. A student who participated in the event said, "This event has given me a brand-new understanding of 4D printing. It feels like opening a door to the future world of science and technology – it’s so interesting!"
This 4D printing science popularization event not only popularized cutting-edge scientific and technological knowledge, stimulated the public’s interest and enthusiasm for exploring 4D printing technology, but also created a good atmosphere for promoting the development of scientific and technological innovation. In the future, the research institute will continue to hold more science popularization events, helping more people understand and love science and technology, and contributing to the progress of science and technology.
