On October 25, the training event themed "Customized Applications of 4D Printing in the Biomedical Field", hosted by the Guangzhou Future Additive Manufacturing Research Institute, was successfully held in Maoming City. With the objectives of cultivating professional talents and promoting technology transformation, the event built a high-quality platform for cutting-edge technology exchange and resource docking in the biomedical sector. It attracted participants including R&D backbones from biomedical enterprises, medical staff of orthopedics and rehabilitation departments in hospitals, teachers and students majoring in biomedical engineering from universities, as well as medical device R&D teams.
Bian Weijie, an engineer from the institute, served as the keynote instructor of this training. First, Engineer Bian elaborated on the technical advantages of 4D printing, focusing on its core principle of enabling autonomous product deformation through smart materials and its application value in the field of personalized medicine. Subsequently, combined with clinical needs in biomedicine, he gave a detailed introduction to the applications of 4D printing in vascular stents, bone tissue scaffolds, scoliosis orthosis and foot orthosis. Through rich case demonstrations, the trainees gained a practical understanding of the R&D process and implementation effects of 4D printed medical products, which provided actionable technical application ideas for on-site practitioners. In the interactive session, participants actively raised questions regarding the difficulties in 4D printing technology transformation, customized solution design, and clinical adaptation issues, creating a lively atmosphere of on-site communication.
